Florida Weight-Loss Consumer Bill of Rights
Pursuant to Florida law, clients of weight-loss providers are entitled to this Bill of Rights. As a client, you have the right to:
- Be provided with a written statement of the rights and responsibilities of weight-loss consumers before your first consultation.
- Be treated with courtesy, respect, and in a way that fully recognizes your dignity and individuality.
- Receive a comprehensive health screening by a qualified and licensed healthcare provider to identify any health conditions that may be impacted by a weight-loss program.
- Receive a written, individualized weight-loss plan that includes the expected duration, nutritional components, and any physical activity recommendations.
- Be informed of the potential health risks and benefits associated with the weight-loss program.
- Receive a clear and complete explanation of the cost of the program, including any additional fees for supplements, testing, or other services.
- Have your personal and medical information kept confidential and disclosed only with your written consent or as permitted by law.
- Be informed of the qualifications, credentials, and experience of the healthcare providers and staff involved in your weight-loss program.
- Ask questions about your weight-loss program and receive clear, understandable answers.
- Decline any part of the recommended program and be informed of the medical consequences of your decision.
- Receive a copy of all medical records pertaining to your weight-loss treatment upon request.
- Voice grievances and recommend changes in policies and services to the weight-loss provider and the Florida Department of Health without fear of reprisal.
