DHEA Capsules
DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a hormone precursor produced naturally by the adrenal glands. Supplementation may support energy levels, mood, cognitive function, and overall hormonal balance by serving as a building block for testosterone and estrogen production.
3-month program. Upfront payment: $225 ($75/month for 3 months).
Prescription required. Provided by board-certified physicians.
Description
DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is one of the most abundant circulating steroid hormones in the human body and serves as a crucial precursor to both androgens (such as testosterone) and estrogens. Produced primarily in the adrenal glands from cholesterol, DHEA acts as a "prohormone" that the body can convert into other hormones as needed, allowing for a degree of physiological self-regulation. Beyond its role as a hormone precursor, DHEA itself has direct effects on immune function, bone metabolism, cardiovascular health, and neuroprotection.
DHEA production peaks in early adulthood, typically around age 25–30, and declines progressively thereafter. By age 70, DHEA levels may be only 10–20% of peak levels—a phenomenon sometimes referred to as "adrenopause." This age-related decline has been associated with reduced energy and vitality, altered mood and cognitive function, changes in body composition, decreased bone density, and diminished immune resilience.
DHEA supplementation aims to restore more youthful hormone levels and support the body's natural hormone production pathways. By providing this precursor hormone, supplementation allows the body to convert DHEA into the specific hormones needed most at any given time—supporting healthy energy, mood stability, cognitive function, body composition, bone density, and immune system health.
What To Expect
DHEA capsules are taken orally, typically once daily in the morning to align with the body's natural hormone rhythms. Many patients report improvements in energy, mental clarity, and overall sense of well-being within several weeks of beginning supplementation. Effects on mood, stress resilience, body composition, and cognitive function may become more apparent over 2–3 months of consistent use.
Individual response varies considerably based on baseline DHEA and hormone levels, age, adrenal function, and overall health status. Your provider will determine appropriate dosing based on laboratory testing and clinical assessment, and will likely recommend periodic monitoring of DHEA and downstream hormone levels (testosterone, estrogen).
How To Use
Take one capsule daily in the morning with or without food, or as directed by your healthcare provider. Swallow capsules whole with water. Do not exceed the prescribed dose. Consistent daily use is important for maintaining stable hormone levels and optimal therapeutic effect.
Safety Information
DHEA supplementation is generally well-tolerated but may cause side effects in some individuals, including acne, oily skin, facial hair growth in women, mood changes, or sleep disturbances. DHEA can be converted to both testosterone and estrogen, and may affect sex hormone levels. Use with caution in individuals with hormone-sensitive conditions including prostate issues, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, or endometrial cancer. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or in individuals under age 18. Regular monitoring by your healthcare provider is recommended.
